Currently lives and works in the Hague, NL
In my artistic practice, I am investigating power structures with a primary focus on the relations between the state and the individual. Growing up in Turkey, a country with a particularly turbulent political history, I inevitably witnessed various forms of state oppression. These experiences moved me to investigate different manifestations of authority and ideology that govern Turkish society. My main interests are the visual communication strategies of propaganda and its role in the construction of narratives around nationalism, militarism, and patriotic myths.
Since I have always been fascinated by science, technology, and art, I attempt to combine these disciplines to find contemporary ways of storytelling. Currently, I use different media such as photography, videography, archival material, and interactive installations to suggest alternative narratives to ones given to us by those in power.
