The Others (2024)

The Others is a video compiled of snippets from a three-hour interview with a Turkish migrant who has lived and worked in the Netherlands for over 30 years, which aims to explore diaspora identity, national identity, and the experiences of guest workers in the Netherlands.

The discussion in the interview shifts from the initial questions to thoughts on current political issues in Turkey and how the world is influenced by populist rhetoric.

During the conversation, various countries, nations, and ethnic or religious groups are depicted as potential political threats without presenting substantial evidence.

Through zooming in on his gestures and body language, and isolating mentions of these accused

"others" -framed as malicious enemies-from the interview's broader content, the artist examines how post-truth politics and far-right propaganda impact the daily life of the Turkish diaspora.
